Since the smoking ban this pub is ven better. Friendly staff, and comfortable tables and chairs. One of the ladies toilets is always broken though. the food used to be good - but the fish and chips recently was very disappoiting - but maybe that was just a bad day

From the Scotsman...

"Smoking ban sparks sale of family's pub

ONE of Edinburgh's best-known pubs, the family-run Eighty Queen Street, has been sold after the owners admitted the smoking ban would be a problem.

Howard Fowler and his son Andrew have sold the business to Punch Taverns, saying they were presented with an offer they couldn't refuse. Mr Fowler Snr said: "It was time for us to move, largely driven by the fact when the smoking ban takes effect the place doesn't have a courtyard."

ED - With the smoking poll ran on this site showing 70% looking forward to the introduction of this ban don't think a lack of courtyard will be a big deal...

Well run bar and restraurant streets ahead of others its field. Has a sort of gentlemans club atmosphes with leather chairs, newpapers and warm well good feeling. Not stuffy or snooty. Very pleasant and well trained congenial staff. Very good food and not overpriced.
