Had no idea this was actually a bar until recently, but it's actually really nice - good decor, good selection of beers, wines, spirits, and the food's fine too. Understand that it's been under new ownership for the last few months, so while the earlier reviewers were doubtless right at the time, I reckon it's worth checking out again. All in all one of the nicest, friendliest bars in town. Enjoy...

Consistently the worst service I have come across in Edinburgh. Only continued to go here because it is the place my co-workers liked, until each one had a bad meal or bad attitude. Now we avoid it like the plague. Free wifi though, which I think accounts for most of their business. Can't imagine what else would.

My partner and myself decided to pop into Baroqe for Sunday lunch (29/10/06), as the venue and menu both looked good. We decided to order a pint of fresh oj with lemonade and a cam of ginger beer, along with a wrap and French toast with bacon and maple syrup.

Initial service when we ordered and paid at the start was very friendly and polite, however this si when it began to change. Our drinks order when it arrived was wrong, we received a small oj and lemonade and an Iron Bru…??!?? After we asked to have our order amended the food arrived. The “French Toast with bacon and Maple syrup” was just French Toast, and the wraps had obviously been re-heated as after about one min the wraps were rock solid and could not be opened.

We decided to complain to be met with a member of staff with the worst attitude I had ever come across – after we explained why we were dissatisfied, the only response we received was “is that it”…. And also by this point we had to get our own cutlery…

Baroqe looks good, appears good, but by our experience (there is always one) there is no “service with a smile” and food quality is very low.
